Little else is more annoying than applying all of your makeup perfectly and then finding that the look is ruined by flaking mascara. As this is is a common problem for so many people I decided to make this guide help you avoid this same problem. Why does my mascara flake and smudge? For such an annoying problem when applying your makeup, you might be surprised to learn that two simple factors cause mascara flaking and smudging. One has to be with how wet or oily your skin is. The second reason is the mascara itself and the quality of the type you are using. So we will go over these briefly and then get into the article. If you’re dealing with the first one, it is simply because your skin is too oily. We cover a few different ways to deal with that particular problem in this article. So if you think that is what your particular issue is, go ahead and read on. If it is not that your skin is too oily, it has to do with the quality of the mascara you were using. In which case, I also highlight how you should choose different mascaras in this article. There could be another reason your mascara is flaking, but it will be one of these two more often than not. So try the solutions to either of these and if that doesn’t work, you can dig deeper. Cleanse and dry skin The first thing you should do before trying anything else to deal with this problem is to go ahead and cleanse your skin. This is an essential step in applying makeup because your skin is not clean by default. Much like the best art, it is better to have a blank canvas to work on. So go ahead and wash your skin.
